“My Passion, My Purpose, Autism”

" “Do not train children to learn by force or harshness, but direct them to it by what amuses their minds, so that you may be better able to discover with accuracy the peculiar bent of the genius of each.”  This quote by Plato can help describe the understanding and knowledge I have gained and accumulated from children with special needs throughout the years.  I have learned that a child cannot be forcefully taught, but it is important to teach each one with an approach tailored to their individual needs. This technique has helped me discover a child’s uniqueness and the individual genius each one possesses.  Throughout the years of working with children in special education I have also learned that every single child encountered has a talent to offer and special skills that need to be fostered. Not only do these children have the capacity to learn, but my time with the students has also given me the opportunity to learn from them. My experiences with children in special education has contributed to a special passion and love in my heart that makes me eager to research how to better improve the lives of children with disabilities, in particular children with Autism.
